Not to nitpick, but you say “The new service represents the resumption of flights between the two countries after a 15+ year hiatus.” I think you mean to say, this marks the resumption of flights *by ANA* between the two countries, as Qantas currently serves SYD-NRT, Jetstar flies MEL-NRT, etc.

[…] ANA to Add Australia Service by Wandr Me. Haneda > Sydney sounds like a pretty nice route to me, let’s hope there is some award space. […]

Any idea whether they’ll be making a new Zone on their award chart for Australia and if so what the redemption cost might be for US to Oz?

Another *A option down under is good given how hard it is to get premium awards on NZ & SQ.

Unfortunately the schedule southbound does not allow convenient connections to NZ (except AKL).

While adding additional seat capacity to/from Australia is always welcome – using points/miles to fly on ANA for award travel from the USA to Sydney r/t via Tokyo will cost $900.00 in fuel surcharges and taxes plus 60K/70K/75K ANA points depending on the travel season. In addition, ANA flies to the USA to/from Narita but flies to/from Sydney via Haneda requiring two expensive airport transfers for the r/t route. Why pay ANA $900 in fees when you can buy a coach ticket on other airline’s for around $1,500-1,800?
