United offers up a West Coast promo, forgets to include the details

Update 2: The promo is back on. Not a very good deal, but it is there

Update: Looks like they’ve pulled the promo. Way to go, United!

Are you flying between “select West Coast cities” on United Airlines before the end of the year? If so, you might be eligible to earn double miles on your flights. Maybe. But it is hard to tell. Check out this promo which launched yesterday from United:

No details at all in there. Plus, more than 8 hours after someone from their twitter team promised to look in to it and get me an answer, no clarification on the promo.

Oops.

Best I can figure is that you may as well register for it on the off chance you are flying on the west coast later this year. Maybe you’ll get bonus points for the flights, even if it isn’t entirely clear that you should.

Oh, and if I had to guess, it is United’s response to the escalating battle in Seattle mostly between Delta and Alaska Airlines, but I really have no idea.

  1. Tried registering on the website – registration does not seem to work properly yet. Still have register now even though have done all they asked. Looks like the policy and application is still in the “on the fly” stage.

  2. I saw this promo at 0 dark 30 this morning while looking to see if they would match AA’s double miles on certain routes to Asia. Thought maybe it was just me as I hadn’t had any coffee yet, but my money was on it being another UAL website snafu that you clarified!
