Hopefully goes on the newest longest range aircraft first, ie 789 and the 777-300er. Actually the E+ mini cabin on the 777-300 would be the ideal space.

Let’s see if I understand this: we’ll have Basic Economy, Economy, Economy Plus. Premium Economy Plus, Business and First Class? Or is this a ploy to downgrade Business class and leave First Class the only option for a decent seat on a trans-Pacific flight?

sigh …. Judgment Day has arrived. If you ever notice, they ones cracking open the champagne on these announcements are almost exclusively those who financially benefit from passengers flying them.

And airlines are notorious for their mis-pricing of the product relevant to its value proposition (and the reality of the competitive market) in order to protect paid J from cannibalization. It’s routine to see CX and ANA asking for $1900-2000 a.i. roundtrip US-Asia on W, then something like CZ or HU quoting just $2400 for flat bed J.

For that small difference in pricing for such a major gap in hard product, there’s no amount of beluga caviar and Savoy-trained on board butlers can make it pick W over J.

Crazy to see the shift from First/Business/Economy to Business/PremiumEco/Economy.

I’m also surprised that the 777-200s will not be getting these new seats when they get the Polaris retrofit.

Got email from United with (nearly?) identical text:

    Introducing United® Premium Plus

    International premium economy is coming.

Later this year, we’ll begin to introduce United’s Premium Plus. Available on select international flights, United® Premium Plus will give you more space, comfort and amenities. The seats will be more spacious and you’ll enjoy upgraded dining on china dinnerware, free alcoholic beverages, a Saks Fifth Avenue blanket and pillow, an amenity kit and more.

Will these be available to ua elites using any economy fare, or miles, do you think, or might a minimim fare code rule be applied, and not available for regular economy saver or standard awards?
