Southwest’s new flights to Mexico are back on

And just like that, the drama with Southwest’s new flights to Mexico has ended. A source inside the company informed me that the necessary paperwork has been received and that flights will resume on Sunday. No explanation yet (and I don’t know that we will ever get he full story) as to why the route requests were not processed in a timely manner some months ago when submitted. But it appears that the issue is resolved for now. No word on whether American also go its paperwork issued or if the sudden flurry of media attention had any impact on the processing.

I’m also impressed it got fixed so quickly. I was not expecting much to get done given how long it had already drawn out.

  1. I wonder why Southwest go so much press when American has been canceling flights daily for over a month! And would love an update on AA’s MIA to MID service and if they have received their paperwork!!!!

    1. Likely in part because WN actually operated some flights without approval. That’s part of why I reported on it.
