Best trip report I’ve read this year

There are plenty of enjoyable trip reports on FlyerTalk, each for their own reason. While this may be my all-time favorite for pure entertainment value a new report went up yesterday which I fond absolutely fascinating. It is Hajj time right now and millions of pilgrims have descended on Jeddah with the eventual destination of Mecca. The closest I’ll probably ever come is the exhibit I saw at Doha’s Museum of Islamic Art last October. That was fascinating but lacked a personal connection. It was beautiful but some context was missing.

The report offered up by isaifan is different. It speaks to many of the nuances and details of the journey. It is more than just flights and hotels. It is more than just photos and stories. I’m very, very impressed. Well worth a read.

And thanks to Sri for pointing it out; I probably would have missed it otherwise.

  1. Great read. Thank you for sharing. I recall a few years ago national geographic had a documentary about the Hajj season (called “Inside Mecca” I think.) I recall flying EK a few years ago during Hajj season and the JFK-DXB flight was filled with excited folks eventually going to JED.

  2. Thank You Seth. That was me who wrote the report. I’m actually a very long time reader of yours. Going through my daily rounds of blogs today, I found this post. With with your vast experience and knowledge, I’m very humbled that you liked the report. Keep up your good work.
