China Eastern joined the cartoon livery club earlier this month. The carrier painted one of its A330 aircraft (B-5976) with a Toy Story theme featuring a giant Buzz Lightyear on the fuselage. The paint job is a joint marketing effort with Disneyland Shanghai.

Normally I don’t get too caught up in special liveries but this one is more than just a paint job. While not quite as involved as the Hello Kitty work that EVA Airlines puts in place the interior of the aircraft got a makeover, too.

Both economy class and business class get custom headrest covers themed to the movie franchise. Given the recent stories about passengers stealing stuff from planes I wonder what the expectations are from the carrier about how much of the Toy Story product will go missing.
This is a nice way of saying passengers steal pillows, blankets and duvets from airplanes. Enough to matter, by the way. https://t.co/TM3WMOUwYG

In business class the carrier also is showing off the new tray table look. Maybe a bit too much, but I suppose once you’ve decided to go after a new branding approach the going all-in is the way to be.

For travelers looking to get their Toy Story on in the sky it is time to get to China. The aircraft is a domestic configuration for China Eastern and is mostly hopping back and forth between Shanghai and Beijing, with an occasional visit to a different city.
