During the online chat a couple weeks ago American Airlines noted that booking of award seats with oneworld partner Qantas was coming soon. Apparently "soon" meant this past week; the functionality is now available on aa.com. I picked Singapore to Sydney as a test search, knowing that there was a reasonable chance of actually finding the inventory, to see how the interface is working.
Toggling between the Coach, Business and First tabs at the top will have the calendar update with the correct data for that cabin. Clicking through on a date will lead to the details page.
And then clicking through allows confirmation of the seat. Interestingly, a connecting flight in Business Class has lower fees than the non-stop in Coach, but both are reasonable.
American is making great strides to bring their award booking engine up to par in terms of both the breadth and depth of functionality. That’s always a good thing to see as a customer.
