Frontier Airlines is betting big on the Dulles market, announcing a huge expansion starting this fall. There will be 14 routes added to the network. As with most of their recent route announcements the new service is not daily on any route but for those with a bit of flexibility and who are willing to play the game of fees for everything the new routes do open up some opportunities. And passengers will have the benefit of flying from the Z gates at Dulles which are in the main terminal building; no need to ride the tram or moon buggy out to the remote terminals. As part of the new route announcement the carrier is offering a sale rate of $15 o/w for today only; regular fares will start at $39 o/w per the press release.

Coming on the heels of significant expansion in Cleveland this move could be seen as an attack on United Airlines, though with the limited schedule it is hard to see that as too significant a threat. Then again, United has fees for lots of things, too, and the buy-up to STRETCH seating on Frontier is generally cheaper than what United offers in Economy Plus for similar space.
