Big bonus miles from oneworld for big transatlantic spenders

Both American Airlines and British Airways are offering up big bonus opportunities for transatlantic travel this summer. And, like previous similar offers, the winners will be those spending big bucks on the flights. Between now and 31 August 2014 program members based in the USA & Canada (plus Mexico for AAdvantage members) can earn up to 25,000 points for crossing the pond, assuming they’re willing to pay top dollar for that trip.

Both AA and BA have limited the bonus earning to passengers paying for higher fares:

  • on British Airways operated flights, includes fares booked in First class, Club World Business class, World Traveller Plus Premium Economy or flexible/non-restricted World Traveller Economy class: F, A, J, C, D, R, I, W, E, T, Y, B or H;
  • on American Airlines operated flights, includes fares booked in First class, Business class or flexible/non-restricted Economy class: F, A, P, J, R, D, I, Y, B or H;
  • on Finnair operated flights, includes fares booked in Business class or flexible/non-restricted Economy class: J, C, D, I, Y, B, or H;
  • on Iberia operated flights, includes fares booked in Business class or flexible/non-restricted Economy class: J, C, D, R, I, Y, B, or H;
  • on OpenSkies operated flights, includes fares booked in Biz Bed/Business, Prem Plus/Premium Economy and flexible/non-restricted Eco/Economy: J, C, D, R, I, W, E, T, Y, B or H;
  • on US Airways operated flights, includes fares booked in Business class or flexible/non-restricted Economy class: C, D, Z, Y, or B.

And the 25k bonus is only earnt on the first class or business class fares. Premium economy earns 10k bonus points for a return trip and the full-fare economy classes earn 5k return. The promo maxes out at 4 round trips, so the 100k max only can be reached if all flights are in business or first class; lots of premium economy trips won’t earn more than 40k, for example.

Registration is required:

I’m slightly surprised to not see a similar promo from US Airways on offer; should it show up I’ll post the link for that, too.
